What Is Blue Hour?

Blue hour is the 20–30 minute window just after sunset when the sky transitions from golden-orange to a deep, even blue. During this window, the ambient outdoor light and the interior/exterior lighting of a home reach a near-perfect balance — and the result is one of the most compelling images you can capture of a property.

If you've ever scrolled past a listing photo that stopped you cold — a glowing home against a dramatic dusk sky — that's blue hour photography. It's not a filter or an edit. It's timing.

Why Twilight Photos Outperform Daytime Exteriors

Real estate studies consistently show that twilight and dusk exterior photos generate significantly higher click-through rates on listing platforms than standard daytime shots. The reasons are intuitive:

• The image stands out in a grid of daytime photos — the human eye is drawn to contrast and warmth
• Interior lights glow through windows, giving the home a "lived in" warmth that daylight can't replicate

The Ideal Window in Orlando

In Central Florida, blue hour timing shifts throughout the year. In summer, sunset happens late (around 8:15–8:30 pm) and blue hour extends well into the evening. In winter, sunset arrives earlier and the window is shorter.

For every twilight shoot, we plan our arrival based on the exact sunset time for your property's location and shoot date. Most twilight sessions begin 15–20 minutes before sunset and wrap within 45 minutes.

How to Prep a Property for Twilight

To get the most out of a twilight shoot, the property should be prepared before we arrive:

• Turn on all interior lights — every room, every lamp
• Turn on pool and landscape lighting if available
• Turn on exterior sconces and garage lights
• Close blinds or curtains only in rooms where the interior would look unflattering
• Have the driveway clear of vehicles

The goal is maximum interior glow through the windows, balanced with the natural sky above. A dark, unprepared home at dusk looks empty. A lit home at blue hour looks like a destination.
